Barely got up to 25000 words out of the Nanowrimo goal of 50000 today. It's day 16 out of 30 of November. I've been writing Flight of the Dove only on my daily commute so far. Perhaps it's time I start working on it on the weekends as well.
As for the actual story, I'm glad to say I kicked the action up a notch or two... all the same there are quite a few scenes I'd like to seriously prune. Part of the pitfalls of writing by the seat of my pants without editing, I suppose. I'm glad I got to air out some of my characters who'd otherwise not see the light of the day. It's always a guilty pleasure for me to place another of my characters into this universe, and it's tempting to squeeze in every last of them, but it wouldn't be appropriate for the setting, nor helpful to the actual plot. It's a bit of a challenge, really.

In between completing World's Craziest Hospital: Infinity Surgery and starting on Nanowrimo, I wrote up a somewhat Halloween-themed WCH story, intended for release on Halloween. It wasn't going in a direction I liked and I hadn't planned it out as much as I wanted to, so I'm tabling it until December. I decided against posting what I have so far last week or on Halloween, because it needs a lot of love and isn't currently in a terribly good state.
In the meantime, I'm embarking on NaNoWriMo through a story that I've looked forward to making- WCH: The Flight of the Dove. I'm going to try my best to hit Nanowrimo's 50k goal before I do anything more than some light editing. Feel free to drop some comments somewhere if you're reading it. Whew, that story went by quickly. I've finished editing World's Craziest Hospital: Infinity Surgery and it is available here. I did have previously-established characters for it and a very simple plot, unlike WOTT.
I'll be working on a short vaguely-Halloweeny WCH story to fill the gap until now and NaNoWriMo, where I will be writing the next big WCH story. After discussing with the person I am collaborating (me for writing, him for art) with War of the Twins, I have decided to give it a breather while he catches up. It will be on hiatus for the time being, likely until December.
What I have for WOTT so far is here Instead, I will be working on WORLD'S CRAZIEST HOSPITAL. A tale of devils, angels, other supernatural beings, regular crazy humans running a hospital. The entire project features characters from Pax, but I am writing this alone. It's a good chance to flesh out and have fun with some of my less serious characters. Progress so far can be seen here. So, update for War of the Twins. I've been steadily losing interest in War of the Twins, since it's a collaborative setting in which the other major collaborators have been conspicuously absent. Despite their lack of activity, they have made big promises they show no indication of following up on, and honestly, I feel a little burnt about that. So it's tainting my experience somewhat and I don't think I'll follow up with these people after WOTT is out. With that said, War of the Twins is easily the furthest I have gotten into a serious creative project (comic or novel) and I do intend to see it through to the end.
As for current progress, it's easy to continue writing when I start writing, and it's still engrossing and burns up an hour of my time like few other things can, but I'm finding myself dragging my feet every morning before I resume working on WoTT. This is because I'm currently in the middle of a romance/world-building chapter, and well... I've never been a fan of romantic anything. But it will likely reap dividends. Just not now. There are also lots of very memorable action scenes in the future I am impatient for. I've contemplated skipping forward to more exciting and dramatic scenes and filling in the less exciting bits later. But that doesn't quite feel right. My initial estimation of the word count was initially in the 50k to 60k range. Now, it is looking like 100k words and change. I'm up to 30k right now. So there's still a lot to go. Probably the reason for this is because I am not a fan of plots that jump ahead to the next big thing while the last one is being processed, so I prefer to extend rather than abbreviate scenes. It's funny because I normally do not take my time in things I do, but here, I feel differently. I just started this thing. It's a work in progress. Under construction. You know what I mean. I'm sure something interesting come out of this. Low expectations. *sighs and crosses fingers*
I'm not sure what to use for feedback for the stuff I will host here. Perhaps some sort of widget that allows semi-anonymous commenting. Perhaps I should create a dedicated email for receiving feedback? I really dislike forcing people to login to comment, so some sort of ask box might be in order. I've put one up on the Links & Feedback page as an experiment. Maybe someone will surprise me by using it. |
